MMGGA MEMBER BENEFITS
THE MID-MAINE GREENHOUSE GROWERS ASSOCIATION is the only active trade association exclusively for greenhouse growers and their suppliers in the
state. Founded in 1986, it is an alliance of over 80 growers and suppliers dedicated to furthering the interests of Maine's greenhouse industry. Learn more about us on our History Page.
Membership benefits include:
PURCHASING POWER
Buying with a group enables members to take the deepest discounts on most grower supplies. Your annual dues are recaptured many times over as you maximize
savings on poly, media, plastics, seeds and other grower supplies. Our group purchases usually take place from summer to early fall.
INFORMATION
Members share ideas about plants, methods, cultural practices, merchandising, and the whole spectrum of greenhouse systems management. Occasional guest
speakers add their expertise to broaden our information base.
RESEARCH
MMGGA funds research projects chosen by the membership. A recent project, which was run by Dr. Donglin Zhang from U.M.O., studied post-sale fertility needs
of basket material. Another was pansy trials at Rogers Farm in Orono on several dozen pansy cultivars.
OHC MEMBERSHIP
MMGGA is one of six groups represented on the Ornamental Horticulture Council, a statewide industry planning group consolidating the interests of Maine's
green industry.
STATE GOVERNMENT
We are pro-active in pursuing a legislative agenda to benefit members. This legislative year we initiated a bill to repeal sales tax on heating fuels in
greenhouses.
REGULAR MEETINGS
The MMGGA meets at least three times a year. There's the annual spring meeting at a member's facility, featuring a tour of the facility, guest speakers,
and free (!) lunch; the annual summer barbecue (more free food!); and the end-of-summer meeting at Rogers Farm in Orono to view plant trials, new
introductions, AAS winners etc. Lots of valuable information gets shared at these events!
JOIN US
Simply complete and return the MMGGA membership application with your check for $40. Annual dues are due and payable on
June 1 of each year.
